Who is the
BEST ACTOR, MIMIC AND CHARACTER
TO EVER COME OUT OF THE NEW ZEALAND BUSH ?

No, its not Sam Neill, nor Anna Pacquin, (Oscar winning child actress) nor even Billy T James (a comedian with a uniquely NZ sense of humour)
No! It's the Bird !!
My personal choice would be the
NZ Native Bird pictured above!!
WHY?
The Tui, (or Koko bird)
is a New Zealand honeyeater with a distinctive plumage, magnificent colouration and capable of a beautiful song.
Unlike the majority of New Zealand birds, the Tui has survived and thrived because of its close relationship with man (including being both tamed and eaten by the Maori), and its ornery and cantankerous personality.
Tui can imitate the songs of other birds and can also imitate people (like a cockatoo or budgerigar).

Tui feathers, particularly the white neck tufts, were prized by Maori for use in Chieftain's cloaks, usually symbolising high rank in Maori society.
Tui can imitate the songs of other birds and can also imitate people. The birds were sometimes tamed and taught to speak. They were taught mihi (greetings) which they would recite when visitors arrived, as well as prayers and proverbs.
They were often trained to sound like the loud and deep voice of a chief. A Tui that spoke like this was called a Manu rangatira – a chiefly bird. Sometimes a tui was named after a tribe’s famous ancestor and kept by the chief.
This is a bird of much personality and character (a bit like its painter really !)
ABOUT THE PAINTER

My name is Gary Hutchinson.
After a full-time career in land management throughout New Zealand and Australia I retired to Coffs Harbour in northern NSW and undertook a personal challenge in 2018 to learn to paint in watercolours. Now, four years later, prints of my works are keenly sought after and adorn home and office walls all over the world.
TUI were my regular and favorite company during walks in the NZ bush for over 40 years as part of my NZ land management work. As part of undertaking a watercolour portrait of my favorite native bird, I undertook some further research into the history of Tui and man. What I uncovered was truly fascinating.
I want to share this information with my fellow Kiwis, so we can all more fully appreciate the character, beauty, and unique personality of this bird in our bush.
I'd also like to introduce my paintings (particularly my NZ works) to you with a Limited Time Promotional Offer to purchase a High Quality Art Print of the "HOMAGE TO THE TUI " at 50% off my normal Retail Prices elsewhere on my website.
I recommend that Kiwis purchase unframed Prints on either Art Paper or canvas, as these can be delivered safely, affordably and quickly to your home or office in time for seasonal celebrations as gifts. It is then easy to arrange with a local framer to mount the prints to match your decor.
